About the Role

Potato seed production field coordinator will coordinate field production of G4 seed potatoes, with a clear focus on attaining set yields and adhering to the field quality control SOPs . You will engage and manage seed potato production out-growers and interacting with different partners involved in the value chain to make sure that the small holder farmers are supplied with high quality and quantity potato seeds..  You will report directly to G4 field production senior coordinator. This role is based in Northern province-Burera with probable relocating to other districts of North-West and is fully onsite.

Responsibilities

Implement good agriculture practices

  • Pest and disease management by focusing on using certified disease-free seed tubers, regular field inspections, proper disposal of infected plants, and crop rotation to prevent pathogen spread.
  • Soil health improvement through soil testing and organic matter application to ensure optimal growing conditions.
  • Adhere to the potato seed production standards to ensure that high quality and quantity seeds are produced,
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM)- Minimizes chemical pesticide use through introducing biopesticides and traps.
  • Post-harvest handling-collaborate with post harvest handling and seed dormancy breaking coordinator to ensure seed quality during dehaulming, harvesting, transportation and storage.

Organize potato seed Planting- coordinate the field preparations, ensuring the delivery of quality potato seeds to planting sites, and ensure the sites labeling with planting dates, areas, and varieties.

Out growers engagement and management-Help engage the potato seed growers and make sure that the growers you are assigned to are performing well their responsibilities and adhering to the seed production standards.

Data Recording-Coordinate with data senior supervisor to ensures accurate record of inputs used, production progress (e.g., germination, weeding, pesticide application), yields, and other essential field data to ensure efficiency and traceability throughout the production process.

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, crop production, horticulture or equivalent
  • 1+ years of experience in potato seed production/potato farming.
  • Understanding of potato pest and disease management and potato seed certification standards in Rwanda.
  • Language requirement: English and Kinyarwanda
