Description

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

RWANDA MEDIA DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP CAPACITY BUILDING FOR DEVELOPING MEDIA HOUSES

Kigali, Rwanda

The Rwanda Media Programme is accepting applications from developing media houses in Rwanda for continuous training and mentorship for their journalists and to a lesser extent some equipment support to selected media houses.

This initiative aims to enhance the professionalization of journalism, improve gender representation, and strengthen media management capacities to foster sustainable, high-quality journalism.

Through this partnership, developing media houses will receive capacity-building support in news production, with journalists trained in key thematic areas where skills enhancement is needed. This includes improving content quality and gaining deeper insights into audience interests, as highlighted by the 2021 and 2023 audience consumption survey.

Background

The Rwanda Media Programme 2021-2026 (RMP) is a five-year initiative dedicated to enhancing the capacity and professionalization of the media sector in Rwanda. It is implemented by Fojo Media Institute (Fojo) in partnership with Mount Kigali University of Rwanda, with funding from Sida (Sweden) and SDC (Switzerland).

The programme focuses on strengthening news and newsroom production while upholding international journalistic core values, including truthfulness, accuracy, objectivity, impartiality, fairness, and public accountability, with a strong emphasis on gender inclusivity.

Through this strategic partnership, RMP aims to support 15 to 20 developing media houses by providing recurring training sessions to enhance their sustainability and professionalism.
