HISTORY

For more than 50 years, we have delivered data-driven solutions to some of the world’s biggest challenges. Here’s a snapshot of where we started.

1971. We got our start at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill conducting research to help people make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health.

1986. We expanded our scope through the development of groundbreaking research, prevention and treatment programs that addressed the HIV and AIDS epidemics.

1990. We established the FHI Foundation to stimulate new ideas and incentivize innovations for the world’s increasingly interconnected challenges. The foundation was funded by proceeds from the sale of two for-profit companies.

2011. Family Health International and the Academy for Educational Development came together to create FHI 360. Our capabilities grew to include nutrition, education, economic development, civil society and other areas — giving us the ability to connect people around the world to the resources and opportunities they need to shape their own futures.

Together with our partners, we will keep moving forward — in ordinary times and times of crisis — until a peaceful and healthy future is within reach for all people everywhere.
